Party Earth Chadwicks Review

The Scene

Set in an area more often lauded for its refined, high-end establishments, Chadwicks is a casual joint that has been serving up basic burgers and beer since the 1960s.

Set in an area more often lauded for its refined, high-end establishments, Chadwicks is a casual joint that has been serving up basic burgers and beer since the 1960s.

Students and unpretentious area residents flock to this rustic bi-level venue for daily Happy Hour specials and rowdy weekend shenanigans, wolfing down two-dollar bottles of Bud and endless plates of fifty-cent wings in the shadow of nearby Whitehurst freeway.

Aerosmith tunes and other rock and roll classics blast out from an internet jukebox near the main bar, as the jeans-and-t-shirt contingent takes over rows of simple wooden tables to catch the game on a couple of nearby TVs.

A second upstairs bar and dining area, dotted with thick square pillars and generous skylights, gets packed to the brim during weekend champagne brunch, when a smart-casual crowd donning anything from Georgetown University sweaters and flip-flops to button-downs and slacks slurps down bottomless flutes of champagne with their steak and eggs.

With a long-standing reputation for hearty American fare and cheap drinks, Chadwicks is a classic “come-as-you-are” bar in the heart of Georgetown.

A Nice Night for Students

The food here is good, nothing memorable though. It's a nice hangout spot for students, particularly because of its friendly staff. I have a friend that's one of those guys, as in sometimes you hate taking them out in public types. Not only did the staff not take his usual attitude, they gave some back in a friendly and funny way. We quickly became regulars, and celebrated many important events (passed a test, let's drink! / failed a test, let's drink!) here.
Leave the car at home

The location I go to on Wisconsin Avenue has one of the worst parking situations I've ever seen. The good news is that this location is situated right next to a Metro Stop, the Friendship Heights metro to be precise. The food here is pretty good, though I find the menu can sometimes lean a little bit towards the meat-heavy side, so not the best place to take your vegetarian friends. The bar can make up for it, though. The bar is enormous and the selection of beer both on-tap and bottled/canned is more than enough to satisfy the beer snobs, and the wine selection is nothing to sneeze at, either.
Decent Price, Decent Experience

Went here before my Senior Prom - clientele includes local private schoolers and Georgetown students (read: Prepsters on a budget). If you're not into that crowd, I'd recommend finding a different location... The food is decent, as are the drinks. Nothing particularly special, but an easy place to meet if you're in the area (most locals have heard of it and know where it is).
Tough Location

If you are going to grab a casual bite or beer in Georgetown I would go to a spot on M Street. Chadwicks is underneath an overpass. Unless you are crammed for time and headed to a movie. I would spend the 3 minutes and walk up to M Street to another establishment rather than eat or drink at Chadwicks.
