Cannaregio, Venice –
Marked by flashing lights and colors emanating from the windows above the Billa supermarket, Dogado may be a surprising find in this otherwise sleepy area – but rest assured that the venue is a bona fide late-night club that doesn’t close its doors until 4am.
Though a bit on the gaudy side, the mishmash of colors and sultry mood lighting – not to mention the odd pairing of traditional Venetian glass chandeliers and high-tech metallic accents – somehow work together to create a sleek environment, which is only complemented by the clean-cut patrons in their stylish jeans, dress shirts, and slinky dresses.
The expansive multilevel layout creates several distinct vibes to suit just about any mood. Patrons intent on low-key conversation and mingling can hang out at the long bar or relax in groups in the intimate lounge setting, while those with an appetite for fine food and an upscale vibe can linger over dinner in the classy restaurant area.
Later on, the mixed crowd of friendly preppy types and edgy scenesters can go wild on the secluded corner dance floor to the diverse beats of everything from disco to tango.
A spacious rooftop terrace offers a terrific view of the surrounding neighborhood, as well as a refreshing place to sip cocktails and swap flirtatious glances with the other guests.
With its central location, high-energy atmosphere, and late hours, Dogado is a sure bet for action not just on the weekends, but on any night of the week.
The drink prices are twice as much as in other local bars, so grabbing a pre-club drink in a place like The Irish Pub (just down the block at Cannaregio 3847) will help your wallet. Just be sure not to stumble up to the door – if the bouncers think you’ve already had a few too many, they won’t let you in.
Diverse group of well-dressed, vivacious night owls, mid-20s+.
Music includes disco, 80s, Latin, tango, pop, and world music. Occasional theme party events. People-watching from the terrace.
Snacks, pizza, and a traditional Italian multicourse menu served until 1am. On theme nights, the line forms outside on the side street instead of at the front entrance.
Snacks €3–€7, pizza €8–€10, dinner €35. Beer €6–€13, wine €5/glass or €28+/bottle, cocktails €10+, mixed drinks €9, Venetian spritz €4.
