  • Café Gratitude

    Los Angeles
    Café / Restaurant
Café Gratitude - Café | Restaurant in Los Angeles.
Apr 3, 2013 A Gratifying Experience "My Take: Café Gratitude offers a holistic approach to its patrons by not only providing delicious vegan and organic dishes, but a positive dining experience created by everyone who works here. A friendly hostess donned in white greets guests as they absorb the beautifully simplistic nature of Café Gratitude, a place where people are just people and the food is pure. Once you are seated in a comfy chair on the outdoor patio or the juice bar stools, be amazed by the delicious assortment of vegan and organic platters, milkshakes, smoothies, or desserts that are sure to entice even the pickiest diner. The Scene: The café is always filled with yogis, students dining with friends, or couples out for a relaxing evening. Café Gratitude is about being grateful for what you have and takes a simplistic approach to its decoration, coloring the restaurant in all white with warm wooden floors. Cocktails & Cuisine: Café Gratitude is strictly a vegan and organic restaurant, so all of its ingredients are fresh from the farm. Don’t come here if you are craving a sugar-free Vanilla Latte, no whip and heated to 108.5 degrees. Save your complicated order for Starbucks and try one of Café Gratitude’s selections of organic teas or milkshakes made with coconut milk. Prices: For such a rare kind of restaurant, Café Gratitude’s prices are pretty inexpensive, especially for Los Angeles. Entrees range anywhere from $12-$16 and each dish is titled with a mantra such as “I am Powerful” to give you an instant self-esteem boost. What to Wear: Café Gratitude is all about loving others as yourself and being entirely open-minded. Because of this “come as you are” mentality, any attire goes for this place. Break out you Lululemons or designer jeans because no one will care what you wear! Insider Info/When to go: The café becomes alive at night, so be sure to make a reservation for dinner if you don’t want to deal with a 45-minute wait. Also, if you prefer the quiet confines of your home for dinner, just order from Café Gratitude’s take-out menu, another way to bypass the long wait for a table." hide

  • Zengo Santa Monica

    Los Angeles
Fusion Restaurant / Latin American Restaurant / Mexican Restaurant / Asian Restaurant
Zengo Santa Monica - Fusion Restaurant | Latin American Restaurant | Mexican Restaurant | Asian Restaurant in Los Angeles.
Mar 13, 2013 A Hidden Gem "My Take: Zengo is tucked away on the third floor of Santa Monica Place, near Third Street Promenade. The modest restaurant is marked simply by a long outdoor hallway where you are greeted by a friendly hostess standing next to the Zengo sign highlighted by bright red neon letters. As you step into the restaurant, a large room illuminated by intimate candles and industrial styled lights complemented by warm wooden booths, create an intimate setting for a romantic date night or dinner with friends. If you are looking for a relaxing cocktail sans the sit down dinner, step over to Zengo’s chic bar for a specialty drink. The Scene: The restaurant has a trendy vibe with equally stylish clientele. Rich wooden ceilings accompanied by discreet booths and dim lighting make this hidden restaurant extremely unique. It is the perfect escape for a casual dinner and drinks with a sense of privacy and swankiness. Cocktails & Cuisine: Zengo boasts an eclectic mix of Latin-Asian food with sushi and tapas styled servings. The Zengo bar is a wonderful attraction, offering a wide range of house specialties in both a bar setting or traditional dining. Prices: The tapas usually range between $11-$14, with main entrees in the upper $20s to lower $30s and cocktails about $12. Zengo also has a daily Happy Hour, where cocktails are $6 and tapas are $4. What to Wear: Zengo offers a contemporary setting but with a casual vibe. Business casual or designer jeans with heels, a cute blouse or blazer, is the perfect attire for this restaurant. Insider Info/When to go: Zengo’s entrance is very difficult to find. The first time I went, I thought its neighboring restaurant, La Sandia, was actually Zengo. If you are facing the entrance to La Sandia, there is an outdoor hallway that is off to the right and that is Zengo’s entrance. " hide

  • Piazza della Signoria

    Florence
Piazza / Square / Outdoor Activity / Landmark
Piazza della Signoria - Piazza | Square | Outdoor Activity | Landmark in Florence.
Mar 6, 2013 Florentine Beauty "My Take: As the oldest square in Florence, Piazza della Signoria exudes history and has become a central hub for Florentines. The focal point of the piazza is a large ornate clock tower part of the Palazzo Vecchio, meaning the “old palace,” which is the oldest building in Florence and a home for the Medici family. Today, Palazzo Vecchio serves as the entry for the Uffizi gallery and a picturesque piece of Florentine history. The square is so magnificent that when an Etruscan city was found underneath it, the Florentines halted excavation to preserve the beauty of the piazza. The Scene: Tourists can be seen at all hours of the day in Piazza della Signoria as well as locals and students going about their daily lives. It is quite an expansive piazza, dotted with high end stores, like Chanel, and charming cafes for those wanting to admire the beauty of Florence while sipping on espresso. Cocktails & Cuisine: There are a number of cafes, bars, and restaurants lining Piazza della Signoria. Almost all serve Italian food, cocktails, and wine, so take your pick and ask for no coperto (cover charge). Prices: Because of its centralized location, the restaurants and cafes in Piazza della Signoria will be a bit more expensive than others off the beaten path, however, it is not enough to break your wallet. What to Wear: Italians love fashion, so dress the part when in Florence. A pair of jeans with a nice blouse or blazer will be perfect and comfortable shoes are a must, since this is a walking city. Insider Info/When to go: Anytime is a good time to visit this piazza, however it is definitely more crowded during the day when all the tourists are visiting. I recommend seeing it during the day and at night when the Palazzo Vecchio is lit up. " hide
