  • Piazza Garibaldi

    Rome
    Square
Piazza Garibaldi - Square in Rome.
Nov 16, 2012 Although not one of the "7 Hills of Rome" Piazza Garibaldi is a great scenic view and starting point for a walking tour. " At the center of the Piazza is a monument representing the Italian patriot Giuseppe Garibaldi (1807-1882) who fought for Italy's independence against French and Austrian forces. This was where he made his last stand. Off to the side a small snack truck. In front of you lay the entire city: the bells, the towers, the domes, the monuments, and the intricate roofs of Italian heritage. Whether with your friends, loved one, camera or sketch book, this is a great place to sit and take a break from the city's chaos, or reflect on your wonderful adventures and plan your next move. If you come just before noon you can hear the daily cannon fire celebrating Italian Independence. Come just before the sun sets and you'll get the view of a lifetime. Close to the historic center and Trastevere, Piazza Garibaldi is great for a walking trip. 1.000 mt from St. Peter's Church 10 minutes on foot from Trastevere and Orto botanico 5 minutes on foot from Gianicolo and from Villa Doria Pamphili park 5 minutes on foot from Tempietto di San Pietro in Montorio 5 minutes on foot from Fontana dell'Acqua Paola 500 mt from San Peter's train station " hide

  • Campo de’ Fiori

    Rome
Nightlife Area / Outdoor Activity / Square
Campo de’ Fiori - Nightlife Area | Outdoor Activity | Square in Rome.
Nov 16, 2012 Great farmer's market by day, and bar hopping at night. " Open weekdays at 9am. Campo de'Fiori is a wonderful mix of locals, immigrants and tourists buying and selling anything from "I heart Roma" tees to the best blood oranges and strawberries you'll ever have- all at prices cheaper than the cramped grocery stores. The stand owners are all charismatic and some a little spunky, giving a great opportunity for you to practice any Italian you may know. Prices are good generally but don't be afraid to check out all of the stands before buying-There will be multiple venders with similar products and a competition with other stands. This site is unique because it provides insight into the ancient bazaars and markets that once could be found in every piazza. It's a great way to see the locals in action and the beautiful mix of old and new that only Rome can achieve. In the evening time this a great piazza for bar hopping. People can experience 4-6 bars in one night without walking more than 1/2 mile. It is very popular with Italian and international university students." hide

  • Villa Borghese

    Outdoor Activity / Park
Villa Borghese - Outdoor Activity | Park in Rome.
Nov 16, 2012 The Villa Borghese is the beautiful antithesis of Downtown Rome. Equivalent to New York's Central Park, it is the perfect place to go to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. " Green pastures, large open streets, families and groups playing, biking, and lounging. You would never guess you were in the bustling Citta Roma. This is your go-to spot for an afternoon picnic. In the summer time locals will retreat to this free paradise to avoid the crowds. More than just a garden, the Villa Borghese houses numerous attractions and activities. A popular attraction is the Galleria Borghese. It hosts some incredible pieces from Caravaggio, Raphael, Bernini etc. But note there are no descriptions to any of the pieces beyond the artist, so for optimal enjoyment one should do a little research beforehand or invest in the guided tour. Although the entrance fee is only €8.50, You have to reserve your spot in advance to enter the museum and are asked to stay no longer than 2 hours so as to avoid crowding. There are many food carts and a cafe in the Villa Borghese, but it's free to bring your own picnic basket too. Another fun spot that most people miss is the Bioparco (Zoo) Roma. Located at the outskirts of the Villa Borghese, the zoo is clean fun, and informational for all ages. The zoo doubles as a rehabilitation center and boasts teaching about the importance of helping endangered species. Entrance fee is €13.00 for adults and €11.00 for children. Many people like to rent a bike and check out the small temples and monuments around the park. If you time it right you could also catch a play or puppet show at the Teatro del Burratino. Electric scooter costs are €8/half hour or €15/hour, four-person bike €15/hour, pedal cart €6/hour. Check the weather before you go and enjoy!" hide
