Sure there are a ton of foggy cold and rainy days in San Francisco, but when the sun does appear, San Franciscans come out in droves to the beautiful SF beaches that wrap around this 7-mile expanse of city.
There are a number of solid beaches in San Francisco that appeal to all types and all ages. A few of the best beaches in SF are Baker Beach and Ocean Beach.
With unbelievable views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Baker Beach is a tourist hotspot – but it’s also known for its lush forest, hiking trails, and a nudist section. On the western side of the city is Ocean Beach, arguably the foggiest beach in SF, it’s also the longest stretching three miles. Mostly quiet and uncrowded, Ocean Beach is a favorite of kite fliers and dog walkers looking for an escape from the congested city.
A foggy city shouldn’t stop you from dipping your toes in the water, even if that water is freezing. But when it warms up, San Franciscans and tourists take full advantage of the sun and flock to the beaches for a little sun-bathing, surfing, and people-watching – and some nude people-watching.
