Macy's 26th Annual Tree Lighting - Union Square Description

Macy's Tree Lighting - Union Square - Holiday Event in San Francisco.

Macy’s Tree Lighting is an annual event held in San Francisco’s Union Square. The holiday spectacle takes place the day after Thanksgiving and marks the beginning of the Christmas season.

Macy’s Tree Lighting features an 80-foot tree, a visit from Santa Clause, and special performances. Past performances include a live ice skating show by Olympian Johnny Weir, entertainment by American Idol star Anoop Desai, and a show by Cirque du Soleil.

The tree lighting culminates in a crowd countdown that leads to the illumination of the tree.

Macy’s 2015 Tree Lighting is free and open to the public, but holiday shoppers who wish to can sponsor a light bulb for $5 that contributes to the fundraising proceeds. Each year, donations are made to the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital.
