Party Earth Review "Leather daddies, bears, and muscle men, oh my!"– and the rainbow-brick road leads them all to Castro 440, one of the few watering holes in the neighborhood that caters specifically to the leather/bondage/kink scene. But while shirtless dudes with chest hair are habitually in attendance, 440’s daily specials and varied ... more

Party Earth Review Arguably the first – and easily the most famous – gay neighborhood in the country, the Castro first experienced the tides of LGBT activism during the 1970s, and nowhere is this history more alive than along its namesake main drag. Fun and fabulous in every sense, things to do that are good for groups in the Castro revolve around taking in the enclave’s storied past while hopping from venue to venue, sipping drinks along the way.
Any crew who visits the Castro will be greeted by a neighborhood that proudly wears its heritage on its sleeve, offering visitors a chance to take a step back into history and see where the nation’s largest LGBT movement began. A walk down Castro Street will do just that, allowing revelers to browse the many establishments that call this area home, from a much-loved theater and bevy of gay bars, to sex shops and random retailers.
One prime Castro group destination is the 1920s-era Castro Theatre, a lavish Art Deco-landmark that showcases movies, film festivals, and special events. With about 1,407 seats, there’s enough room for the whole gang.
Another easy group destination in the Castro is any gay bar, all of which offer a taste of the local social scene. There’s sure to be plenty of patrons who lived through the area’s progression into the largest LGBT community in the U.S., providing an excellent opportunity for a little history lesson over beers. SF Badlands, The Café, and 440 Castro are a few popular gay-friendly haunts.
