Centro, Rome –
With its authentic feel, dark wood paneling, and all of the standard Irish beers on tap, this classic Irish bar near Piazza Navona is the perfect pit stop for a pint or two while catching the score.
Although inspired by Dublin’s historic Abbey Theatre – and decorated with portraits of illustrious actors, writers, and directors as well as memorabilia from the theater itself – the pub is a decidedly sporty venue where fans cheer on their favorite teams in front of fourteen flat-screen TVs that broadcast every international sporting event imaginable.
Patrons shouldn't fooled by the deceptively small front room – the pub actually extends into room after room of additional seating, as well as an upstairs area that is opened on the busiest nights and weekends.
Half the barstools are usually occupied by English-speaking regulars, while the high wooden tables and corner benches are packed with groups of study-abroad students or international thirty-something patrons.
Whether it’s the incredible student discounts, the selection of sports, or the wildly popular Pub Quiz nights, Abbey Theatre keeps its spirited crowd coming back time and time again.
Many English-speaking sports and beer enthusiasts, as well as students and Italians looking to improve their English, early 20s to 40s.
Flat-screen TVs tuned to sporting events or MTV. Live Irish music almost every Friday; otherwise, rock and pop music.
A full kitchen serves traditional Irish fare and Italian dishes at reasonable prices, noon–midnight. Happy Hour M–F 3–8pm.
Students with ID receive steep discounts on drinks on M/F. Free Internet access with a food/beverage purchase.
Appetizers €6.50–€10, pasta €5.50+, traditional Irish menu €8–€14, entrées €7–€13, salads €5–€10, sandwiches €4.50+, desserts €4+.
Beer €4–€6, Magners Irish cider €7.50, wine €4/glass or €13–€55/bottle, cocktails €7+, shots €4.
Sporty casual.
Weekend days for sporting events, or any day after 9pm.
