Situated entirely underground, the unassuming Alexanderplatz Jazz Club has the exclusive vibe of a prohibition-era speakeasy and attracts an international crowd of sophisticated jazz enthusiasts, aspiring musicians, and local music students.
Renowned in the 90s as the only jazz club in Italy, the venue was created in the image of the internationally acclaimed clubs of New York, Paris, and London.
The space itself consists of three low-ceilinged rooms separated by arched partitions, with candlelit tables surrounding the stage in the center room, as well as a bar in the corridor that connects each seating area.
The club generally features big-name musicians from around the globe and offers live music every night from October through June before it moves operations to the Celimontana Jazz Festival in the summer.
Although the patrons take the music at Alexanderplatz Jazz Club seriously, the good-natured banter that flows between sets creates a fun and lively atmosphere.
Fridays through Mondays are busy, so make a reservation in advance to avoid having to stand in the corridor without a view of the stage. Spend some time trying to decode the scribbles and notes of famous musicians like Chet Baker, who have left their marks on all those scraps of paper that cover the walls.
Sophisticated, stylish music lovers, late 20s and up.
Live jazz and blues nightly. Check the website for an updated schedule.
