Trastevere, Rome –
Ideally located in a corner of Piazza Trilussa in Trastevere, Café Friends is a lively bar regularly occupied by the swarms of people who descend on the square to peruse the offerings of the vendors and chat over drinks at the venue’s outdoor tables.
Inside, the space – which sports a décor of punctured sheet metal – is a bit more cramped as customers line up at the long, glass-topped bar that stretches across the room in an undulating wave, or crowd around the tables in the two slightly quieter sections off the bar area.
Because of its prime location in the piazza, its reputation for spontaneously handing out free shots, and its unusual offering of an American-style breakfast, Café Friends attracts a regular and spirited crowd of preppy Italians and international students looking for lively conversation and a bustling atmosphere.
Young locals and students, late teens to early 30s.
A mix of everything from pop to house. DJ on Saturday nights.
American style breakfast. Happy Hour daily 7–10pm, includes buffet.
Nachos and bar snacks €5–€10, salads €6+, desserts €4.50–€10. Beer €6, wine €6/glass or €25/bottle, cocktails €7.
Casual.
Busiest on Saturdays but good on any evening.
