A complex of 24 red clay tennis courts located in chic western Paris, Stade Roland Garros is most famous for hosting the French Open, known simply as "Roland Garros" in France.
The stadium was named in homage to aviation pioneer Garros, who died in combat during WWI.
Stade Roland Garros contains three main courts. The biggest and the original one, built in 1928, is Central Court; also known as Court Philippe Chatrier, it has seating for 15,000 fans. The remaining main terrains are Court Suzanne Lenglen (with a capacity of 10,000) and court number 1 (4,000 seats).
The complex features many food vendors as well as restaurant Les Jardins de Roland-Garros. There is also the Musée de la FFT (the Museum of the French Federation of Tennis), renovated in 2012 and all about the history of tennis in France.
The stadium will undergo renovations in the near future to create covered courts and possibly extend its surface area.
