Pigalle - 9eme, Paris –
Located in edgy Pigalle, Le Divan du Monde is a uniquely French music club with a convivial ambiance and bustling with colorful characters, good music, and swinging dance moves.
One of the city’s oldest clubs, the two-level space consists of a stage, dance floor, and bar on the first floor and additional tables and seating upstairs, all decked out in an updated gothic aesthetic featuring a dark red-and-black décor.
The club’s eclectic roster of performers and events, which includes everything from indie and rock bands to poetry slams, attracts an urban clientele of hipsters and alternative types.
On most nights, live performers entertain patrons earlier in the evening, while after 11pm, the scene invariably transforms from concert hall to night club, with a DJ spinning tunes for the rambunctious crowd on the dance floor.
Known for its diversity, Le Divan du Monde seems to provide a niche for everyone in a highly-charged environment.
Mix of local workers, alternative types, and students, early 20s to late 30s.
Performers and musical styles from all over the world. Late-night music is always a mix of older American hits and popular French songs.
Happy Hour most nights 8–10pm.
Performances €15–€35; Club free before 11pm when there are no concerts, €10 thereafter; no cover charge on Mondays. Drinks €5–€10.
Anything goes, from flip-flops to cocktail dresses.
Friday nights when the crowd is rowdy and the music is loud. The place is packed by 1am, so it’s best to arrive before 11pm when there are no lines and the drinks are cheaper.
