Right in the heart of trendy Saint Germain is Café Mabillon, a swanky spot whose claim to fame is that it’s open twenty-three hours a day.
And that’s no small claim – in a city where it’s hard to have late lunches and midnight dinners, Mabillon smartly accommodates the diverse work and party patterns of its wide range of customers.
The mellow mood, surprisingly maintained both day and night, is enhanced by the seductive reds and purples that dominate the décor, from the walls and stained glass art to the leather booths, and by the dim lighting and tiny tables dappled by flickering candlelight.
Mabillon is a supremely chill place to hang out, especially for patrons who have sunk themselves into one of the wicker chairs on the terrace, which is pleasantly heated in the winter.
Though it may not be the best spot to meet new people, the bar is still a delightful place to go with friends for Happy Hour cocktails, a 4pm brunch, or a crack-of-dawn nightcap.
The best thing about Mabillon is its location right on the beautiful and busy Boulevard Saint Germain, which makes it easy to drop in after a day of shopping in the area. There’s a never-ending flow of pedestrians here, so the terrace seating is perfect for people-watching – not to mention for a Sunday afternoon glass of wine when many other cafés are closed.
Varies by the hour, but mostly young professionals, 20s to 40s.
Ambient techno, electronic, and house. Occasional live music.
Prix fixe brunch on Sundays. Dinner menu includes tasty sandwiches, burgers, and French and Italian entrées like chicken with risotto and veal milanese. Happy Hour daily 7–9pm. All drinks served with a little plate of olives and peanuts.
Prix fixe brunch €19. Aperitifs and appetizers €9.50–18.50, sandwiches €12.50–17.50, omelets €12.50, burgers €17.50–€25.50, entrées €16.50–€29.50. Cocktails €10+.
Smart casual.
The bar is busiest on the weekends, but there’s a good time to be had any night of the week. Stays crowded late.
