Latin Quarter - 5eme, Paris –
Developed by the same team who created the popular Experimental Cocktail Club, Curio Parlor joined the Latin Quarter scene in 2008 and has since developed a loyal (arguably die-hard) following of young mixology lovers.
After entering through an unmarked door and a set of velvet curtains, patrons find themselves in a cozy room with an over-the-top décor and a decided speakeasy flair.
Along with the taxidermied animals posed here and there, the space features a huge acrylic chandelier, a few cushy chairs, and a posh illuminated bar.
Curio Parlor takes its drinks seriously and, in addition to serving a variety of custom cocktails, claims to be the only Japanese Nikka (whiskey) bar in Paris.
Customers who prefer a bit of music can check out the downstairs level, which offers a second bar and a domed lounge area, as well as a collection of curio cabinets full of bones and animal specimens.
Although late-night guest DJs play 80s and alternative pop, Curio Parlor’s stylishly cool crowd is usually more interested in mingling and conversation than dancing.
International students and young professionals, mostly 20s.
DJs downstairs most nights after 11pm. Occasional silent film screenings.
None.
Beer €7, custom cocktails €10–€12+.
Smart casual.
Weekends are busiest.
