Party Earth Cielo Review

The Scene

An exciting dance hall that distances itself from the traditional Meatpacking mega-club template, Cielo is clearly dedicated to the rhythm and the music.

An exciting dance hall that distances itself from the traditional Meatpacking mega-club template, Cielo is clearly dedicated to the rhythm and the music.

A pulsating bass gets the head-nodding started in the foyer, where lines of hip young professionals and beat-happy club kids getting frisked and ID’d start grooving before they even enter the one-room club and its swirl of lights.

High-energy house music junkies of every size and race bounce around the center sunken dance floor beneath flashing strobes and disco balls, catching fragments of themselves in the mirrored columns as they dance by.

Seasoned clubbers more into checking out the action from the sidelines can lounge in one of the cushioned alcoves around the perimeter or hang out at the neon-backlit bar to mingle over cocktails, while smokers and worn-out dancers can take a breather on the heated patio.

Though the space may be filled with beautiful party people, there’s no doubt that the music is king here, and the crowd goes wild as the DJs (Cielo alumni include and Chris Vargas) climb into the elevated booth ready to shake the cushioned walls with energetic mixes of hardcore electronica ranging from deep house to trance.

A refreshing refocus on the Downtown dance scene, Cielo offers a nightly party for clubbers who prefer dropping beats to dropping names.

Prepare to dance till 4am, so make sure your heels are ones that can hang late night and not like Cinderella’s glass ones that don’t make it past midnight.

Deep House and Dark Corners

Cielo was not what I expected--but then again, I don't think I was expecting deep house playing until all hours of the morning and a swanky, sexy building filled with dark corners and flashing lights. The vibe that night was not as young as advertised--I felt like one of the youngest people there (at 23) and the fashion left much to be desired. Also, the crowd wasn't too into my dancing style, and I got some nasty looks for my bootylicious moves. The bartenders were really nice and made good drinks, considering the cover price was $25 for two people, getting drinks that are a bit heavy-handed is a nice plus. The DJ was amazing and played deep house all night, and since Cielo isn't that big, it was a deafeningly intimate affair. A lot of fun!
Cielo is the place to go to experience classy vibes

They have really good service at Cielo don't expect to get the bang for your buck here. Entrance fee was $30 on a Saturday night the crowd tends to be young professionals think wall st. guys. The dance floor is amazing you can feel the sounds coming from all directions. Cielo brings you the best Techno/ Caribbean beats every night of the week, over all I had a good experience.

Absolutely love Cielo!! I can't even begin to tell you have many nights I've spent in this place!! Right in the Meatpacking District on Little West 12th, a place that consistantly throws the best house music parties in NYC with top notch talent every night of the week. From deep house to tech, you'll find what you're looking for here. The place is small and intimate but the system is like no other. They've been open for 9+ years which is a long time in "club land" so you know they have a clue what they're doing. There is usually a cover charge, so buying tickets prior for a reduced admission is probably a good idea.
Dance. Here. Duh!

I loooooveee this place! When I was going out every night this used to be my Thursday night shizz. The sound system is consistently rated one of the top in the world, and they have the worlds best DJ's spinning in the intimate space. The entrance can be a bit pricey, but if you go online and get on the guest list in advance there's usually a few dollars off. The concept itself is pretty interesting because while there are spaces for bottle service, most people just flock to the bar (fastest bartenders ever) and then bring their drinks onto the dance floor and dance the night away until closing. Because of their EDM format getting in can sometimes resemble a trip through the TSA - so leave your party enhancers at home or hide them well. But seriously, great place for locals and visitors alike (especially European visitors) and who can resist a dance party with a drunk 7ft cross dresser milling around the room?
Sure, if you like this sort of thing

For the Adrianas, Cielo is a lovely place to go and dance your face off. This chic downtown dance club has a high-octane atmosphere in its wide-open dance floor and disco ball-filled lighting rig that keeps patrons on their feet and sweating profusely through most of the night. With that said, it all seems a little typical, you know? Cielo could easily be the most professional-looking and well-budgeted warehouse rave in town, its single-room set-up and glossy backlit surfaces smacking of a place for Super Sweet 16s and not adult parties had by real people. If you're into the downtown dance club circuit, swing by and check it out, but Bembe's a better place to hang and Pacha's a better place to go absolutely nuts.
