One of the bigger neighborhoods in Manhattan, the Chelsea/Flatiron district is home to everything from high-end clubs and avant-garde art to beer bars and a bustling gay scene.
During the day, local professionals zip between their office jobs and the many shops and restaurants in The Chelsea Market, or peruse the offerings at chain stores and chic boutiques like Balenciaga and Commes des Garçons, while tourists and art lovers alike flock to the hundreds of galleries dotting the neighborhood.
More athletic or outdoorsy types tend to frequent Chelsea Piers with its unlimited sports options or meander along The High Line, an abandoned subway line transformed into an elevated park.
At night, the neighborhood comes alive with a diverse party crowd, from black-clad models at the guest-list-only nightspots and post-grad jocks and Jets fans at the sports bars, to both gay and straight crowds at the colorful gay lounges and leather bars.
NYU students and anyone else out for a few laughs or a casual good time check out the shows at Upright Citizens Brigade to see the next stars of SNL or, in the summer, join the legions of college grads that flock to the water’s edge for cocktails overlooking the Hudson.
From late-night debauchery to civilized afternoon drinks, Chelsea/Flatiron is a hip and cultural New York neighborhood that’s as great to live in as it is to play in.
