A late-night menu, reasonably priced drinks, and a welcoming atmosphere keep people coming back to Art Bar, a West Village staple that draws a loyal mix of locals and out-of-towners alike.
A candlelit front room lined with a long bar on one side and green leather booths on the other features tilted mirrors and a green-and-orange harlequin-diamond wall that lend the space a slight carnival feel, which only adds to the festive atmosphere created by the steady stream of college students, tourists, and young professionals who show up to snack on appetizers or chat over a martini or three.
Couples looking for a more intimate space will want to check out the vintage living room down the hall, whose old leather couches, teardrop chandeliers, and flickering fireplace provide a sensual backdrop for engaging conversations.
Artsy types will appreciate the giant pop art representation of the Last Supper featuring the likes of Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, and Elvis, as well as the rotating exhibits of works by local artists.
The combination of playful décor, creative cocktails like the Watermelon Jolly Rancher, and laid-back but sociable atmosphere gives Art Bar a quirky yet familiar feel that has made it a destination spot for patrons looking for an upbeat night out.
Check out the art in the back room! Art Bar has a great permanent collection, but they also showcase a different artist every few months. The work ranges from abstract painting to photography, and they even throw opening parties. If you’re interested in purchasing, just ask the bartender for the artist’s card.
