Party Earth Aria Review

The Scene

Specializing in biodynamic and organic wines made by female vintners from around the globe, Aria offers a new perspective on the traditional wine bar.

Specializing in biodynamic and organic wines made by female vintners from around the globe, Aria offers a new perspective on the traditional wine bar.

Chic and rustic, the charming single-room space features exposed brick, raftered ceilings, and a white subway-tile bar where a female-heavy crowd of local professionals and affluent downtowners gathers to sip wine and make eyes at the preppy guys across the room.

Small front tables offer a bit more privacy for double dates getting cozy and foodies hunched over their Venetian appetizers, while flirty singles opt for the communal butcher-block table where face-to-face conversation flows more easily.

A wall-size chalkboard lists specialty cocktails and available vintages patrons can pair with their small plates of anchovies and marinated olives.

Usually packed by 9:30pm with chatty dinner dates and wine connoisseurs, Aria is a laid-back gem perfect for a sophisticated night out or a low-key start to a long evening.

Tip from Emma:

Don’t leave without sampling something from the food menu as well – the small plates are perfect to share among friends. Best bet is the vegetarian lasagna, a favorite of the bartenders that you’ll enjoy even if you’re a meat eater.

  • Crowd

Sophisticated West Village locals, affluent professionals, foodies, couples on dates, and many after-work women, late 20s to 40s.

  • Entertainment / Music

    Ambient contemporary indie pop.

  • Food / Miscellaneous

Menu of Venetian cicchetti (appetizers) including cheese and charcuterie plates, mini-meatballs, and vegetarian lasagna.

  • Prices

    Cheese/charcuterie plates $4–$5, hot plates $9. Beer $6+, wine $5–$10/glass or $35–$50/bottle, cocktails $12+, mixed drinks $10+, shots $10+.

  • What to Wear / Dress Code

Dressy to nice casual: women in designer dresses, suits, or jeans and heels, and men in classic preppy looks.

  • Hot Nights / When to Go

Good vibe every night, though excellent as a Saturday night launching pad for nibbles and pre-game drinks.

  • Close By

The Other Room (143 Perry Street) is a darker, sultrier bar for those looking for a chattier singles scene.

Aria definitely has it's own melody to it. Whether it stems from the wine or the rosy candlelight is hard to tell. I went here with a group of girlfriends and it was fun, but not as fun as when I went on a double date. This is definitely more of a romantic spot. If you're with your girls, go for the sangria. It's really tasty! As for dates, go cocktails or splurge on a bottle. Tuck yourselves away into one of the cushioned nooks and drink dreamily through deep, late night conversations. The space itself is very intimate. There's a bar directly up front and a very small seating area in the back. There is a slight possibility of being on someone else's date because of how close together the tables are. Go on a week night; particularly a Wednesday when it is less crowded. Steer clear with a date on weekends unless it's really early into the night.
Great theme/mission to Aria

Very hip and chill spot for a date. And the theme of Aria doesn't hurt endearing you to your lady friend that evening. I prefer the reds, wine that is...
