MY TAKE: This restaurant was my parents’ favorite restaurant when they lived in Germany 30 years ago, and according to them in all that time the place hasn’t changed a bit. Having heard about the Rusticana my whole life, I was sure that the place couldn’t possibly live up to its reputation. Well, it did. This neighborhood steakhouse THE SCENE: There are lots of families and groups of friends either celebrating or just out to enjoy a good meal. While it’s not a place unknown to travelers, the crowd is predominately local; however, the cheery, good-natured, and English-speaking staff makes the place feel very welcoming even for foreigners. CUISINE: Meat, meat, and more meat. They’re most famous for their mountain-high stacks of the juiciest ribs I’ve ever had in my life. The other stars of the menu are the incredibly tender and unbelievably large steaks. Honestly, I could try to describe the gargantuan size of these steaks to you, but you would just think I’m exaggerating. The only solution is for you to check it out for yourself! Germans are known for their beer, so make sure to try one of the ones they have on draft. Even if you don’t consider yourself to be a beer person, try a German beer. They’re in a class all their own and most likely unlike anything you’ve ever tasted (especially if you’re American). PRICES: Ribs €15/person. Steak (250g) €19-30. DRESS CODE: Casual, but presentable. WHEN TO GO: Any night you’d like, but the place can get pretty packed around dinnertime. I would call ahead and make a reservation just to be safe.
