Rote Sonne Information

Rote Sonne - Club in Munich.

Rote Sonne (Red Sun) is a discotheque and live music club located at Maximilian Platz in central Munich.

First opened in 2005, Rote Sonne derives its name from the 1969 West German feminist cult classic of the same name in which a group of women decide to kill their boyfriends if they insist on a relationship lasting longer than five days. The film stars Uschi Obermaier, the one time fling of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Jimi Hendrix.

Rote Sonne mostly hosts DJs who play music in the techno, house, minimal, electro, and dance genres.

Live performances at Rote Sonne have included shows by Acid Pauli, Animal Collective, Boys Noize, Cobra Killer, Dave Clarke, Laurent Garnier, Len Faki, Marek Hemmann, Miss Kittin, Patrick Pulsinger, Tiefschwarz, and Troy Pierce.

Capacity at Rote Sonne is around 350.

In 2005, 2007, and 2008 Rote Sonne was voted by readers of the music magazine De:Bug as one of the best clubs in Europe.
