City Center, Munich –
Formerly one of the hottest gay clubs in Germany that routinely welcomed gay and straight icons like Freddie Mercury, David Bowie, and Mick Jagger, the space once known as Old Mrs. Henderson has since changed its name to Paradiso Tanzbar, a club that has become a haven for Munich’s chic set.
The décor is largely faithful to the original and features the same multicolored lights, disco balls, and Saturday Night Fever dance floor that graced the kitschy space in its heyday in the 70s and 80s.
A relatively small club, the venue consists of a single room with a bar, a few scattered tables and red-velvet benches, and a dance floor, which combine to create an intimate and exclusive vibe.
Though the stylish patrons are decked out in designer duds and jewelry and have their hands full of champagne flutes, none of that holds them back from sweating on the dance floor – along with the scantily clad house dancers and burlesque performers, of course.
Tanzbar, after all, means “dance bar,” and there’s definitely never a shortage of dancing going on here.
Stylish, social, and lively young professionals, mostly late 20s to mid-30s. Men tend to be on the older side and women on the younger.
80s club hits and international and pop music. Frequent burlesque shows.
