Neuhausen-Nymphenburg, Munich –
One of Munich’s more alternative clubs, Backstage is a sprawling complex with both indoor and outdoor spaces for live concerts, movie showings, and club nights.
Popular with an edgier crowd of teens, students, and young professionals looking for a change from the usual upscale clubs and tight door policies, the venue sports an ever-changing décor whose main features are black-painted furnishings and multicolored lighting that create a grungy, underground vibe.
Simple wood tables, lanterns hanging in the trees, and a couple of foosball tables make up the outdoor night beer garden and chill-out area, where the young music loving patrons gather for beer and a bit of air before heading back inside to listen to a live rock band or dance the night away to some energetic house music spun by world-class DJs.
Backstage’s expansive layout and full roster of events mean that there’s always a variety of activities to choose from, whether it’s watching sports or movies projected onto huge screens in the early evenings, kicking back with a beer in the garden later on, or rocking out to an electro band until dawn.
Alternative students and young professionals, late teens to early 30s.
Live bands or DJs spinning rock, metal, reggae, house, and electronic. Check the website for details on concerts and nightly featured music.
Basic snacks available during sports and movie showings, though hungry visitors will probably want to fuel up beforehand.
Snacks €2.50+. Beer €3+, cocktails €7+.
Trendy casual.
Weekends and any night with a live band draw the largest crowds.
