Club Atlético de Madrid, S.A.D. is a team in La Liga that plays its home matches at Estadio Vicente Calderón in Madrid, Spain. The stadium was built in 1966 and can hold 54,960 screaming fans for Atlético fixtures. However, in 2015 the team will be moving to the remodeled Estadio La Peineta, which will be able to fit 70,000 spectators. Atlético de Madrid was founded in 1903, and adopted their current name in 1939. Although often overshadowed by its city rival, Real Madrid, los Colchoneros have consistently been in the top tier of La Liga, having won numerous league championships, Copa del Rey’s, and multiple UEFA Europa League championships. Some of the team’s most famous players have included Luis Aragonés, Adrián Escudero, and Tiago Mendes. Tickets for Atlético matches are available online or onsite, but early purchase is recommended for popular games.
