My take: Taberna La Carmencita is a Mediterranean restaurant situated on one of the narrow streets around Chueca. Its old classic-looking interior décor and candle-lit dinner was by far the best part for me. The food however was quite a disappointment. I went for dinner and ordered stuffed peppers and paid 18 euros and expected to get a decent sized portion but all I got was 4 tiny stuffed peppers, poorly presented and cold given to me on a plate. My friend was given a similar plate, just as tiny and sloppy. The scene: Taberna La Carmencita would be a great place for a first or second date due to the candlelight and relaxed atmosphere. It has a traditional interior with wooden furniture and classic blue and white coloured ceramic tiled walls. It feels very chilled and it is not a loud venue so good if you need to have a conversation without straining your voice. The service is average and is fairly quick but the staff need to be more knowledgeable about what’s not available. Cocktails and cuisine: The restaurant is open all day from 9am to 2am. It has 75 dishes to choose from and 40 wines plus a good selection of reasonably priced cocktails. The same menu applies for lunch and dinner but there’s no set menu. Prices: It’s expensive like I've said already. Expect to pay 40 euros per person for 2 courses and one drink. What to wear: Smart casual in general, including jeans and vest tops. Insider info/when to go: If you go in the evening when it’s dark and you wear glasses bring them! It is really quite difficult to see the menu, even for me with good eyesight.
