Tropical cocktails liberate the inhibitions of the laid-back crowd at La Negra Tomasa, an animated Cuban music bar where waitresses dressed in traditional island attire serve up Cuban favorites like mojitos and special black bean dishes.
The cluttered décor features countless photos, posters, vintage advertisements, newspaper clippings, and other bits of Cuban memorabilia, and it is against this backdrop that the sociable patrons sip cocktails at the small three-sided bar or grab a place at one of the long tables to enjoy an authentic dinner and the perpetual sounds of salsa and Afro-Cuban beats.
The breezy, carefree atmosphere is only enhanced at night, when tables are pushed together to accommodate the large festive groups that gather to catch an island buzz and jam to the Cuban melodies of the live band performing on the makeshift stage in the corner.
Whether local or visitor, young or old, the patrons at La Negra Tomasa are a diverse, fun-loving crowd ready to cheer on the band or break into a bit of impromptu merengue dancing.
Anyone who likes the island vibe will want to start the night with the tropical drinks and live music at La Negra Tomasa. The side of the bar near the band is the best spot to soak up the atmosphere and the music. The place really fills up on the weekends, so to get one of the coveted tables near the stage, it’s best to show up a good twenty minutes before the show starts at 11:30pm.
