Located in the heart of the sizzling nightlife of Huertas – a legendary strip of clubs and bars on the eastern side of the city center – the critically acclaimed Café Jazz Populart is one of Madrid’s oldest and most popular jazz clubs, which presents a diverse roster of live performances that include reggae, jazz, Afro-Brazilian, blues, and salsa.
Although the club attracts a large local crowd, the performers come from around the world and draw in a sizable international contingent as well.
The intensely spirited vibe is continuously fueled by the thunderous applause and appreciative whistles of the enthusiastic audience and, of course, by the dynamite performances themselves. Visible on the walls through the heavy haze of smoke that hangs above the animated crowd is a collection of antique brass instruments and countless photos of past performers.
Tight quarters make it impossible to move freely during the shows, so guests should stock up on drinks and take bathroom breaks beforehand, because once the music starts at Café Jazz Populart, it goes well into the night.
Intellectual and eclectic mix of music fans, mid-20s to 40s+.
