Malasaña / Chueca, Madrid –
From its dignified steel sign and austere stone façade to the shining hardwood floors, dim orange lighting, and soft jazz and funk music, Del Diego successfully sets the mood for a suave, stylish crowd to spend a cool night on the town.
While the décor and attentive tuxedo-clad waiters suggest swanky and upscale, there is a pleasant lack of pretension among the sophisticated but laid-back clientele.
Most patrons settle in with their friends at the front tables where the view of the passersby on the street below forms the backdrop for relaxed but lively conversation.
Given that there’s not much mingling between tables, Del Diego is not the best place to meet new people – but patrons feeling chatty can try their luck at the bar, or just stop by with their own group of friends for a chic night out.
