LA Museums Overview

Hammer Museum - Museum in LA

Los Angeles is much more than an entertainment hub and place to party. In nearly every neighborhood one can find a museum to flex some brain muscles.

The California Science Center at the University of Southern California campus is a hot stop on the L.A. museum circuit now that it’s the permanent home of Space Shuttle Endeavour, NASA’s retired galactic whip. For history buffs, the Autry National Center in scenic Griffith Park is a solid alternative, offering guests an in-depth lesson on the American West.

Left-brainers who prefer to indulge in their creative side will delight in the numerous Los Angeles museums that focus on the arts. The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) in Miracle Mile, Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Downtown L.A., Hammer Museum in Westwood, and Getty Center in Brentwood specialize in everything from 19th and 20th century styles to contemporary works, with tons of rotating exhibits.

If the above Los Angeles museums seem more like school field trips than anything else, the Grammy Museum at L.A. Live has four floors dedicated to the history of the awards show and its winners.

With enough museums in Los Angeles to please almost any intellectual taste, a day of culture in the city can become anybody’s reality.
