MTV Movie Awards Awards Show Event Every year in April

Every year in April, Hollywood’s brightest stars and thousands of fans head to Los Angeles to celebrate the MTV Movie Awards. The MTV Movie Awards and their ceremonial golden popcorn statues play a significant role in contemporary American culture.

The first MTV Movie Awards took place in 1992, when Dennis Miller hosted and handed out a golden popcorn statuette to Arnold Schwarzenegger for his role in Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Since then, dozens of famous actors and actresses including Jim Carrey, Tom Cruise, Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, and Uma Thurman, and countless others have accepted MTV Movie Awards. Past MTV Movie Awards hosts include Justin Timberlake, Sarah Silverman, Ben Stiller, and Eddie Murphy.

The MTV Movie Awards hands out trophies for more creative categories than other film award shows like Best Breakthrough Performance, Best Villain, Best Gut-Wrenching Performance, Best Kiss, Best Hero, and Best Scared-as-S**t Performance.  The event also features live musical performances by some of the day’s most popular artists.
