My Take: Once you get past the sketchiness that is the weird mall you go through to get to Sushi Go 55, you'll be quickly put at ease with how incredible the food is at this downtown LA sushi restaurant. To get into Sushi Go 55, you enter through the Little Tokyo Shopping Center, which at night, is almost entirely empty save for a few Japanese teenagers and the random diners heading up to the third floor restaurant area. Once up the escalators, you head to the back right corner and into a little slice of Tokyo. The lighting may be too bright, but the servers are fast, the sushi chefs are masters, and the food will melt in your mouth. The Scene: The crowd at Sushi Go 55 is a mix of Japanese locals, downtown hipsters who are in the know, and the occasional dater. I've come here on a date as well as with some after-work friends. The vibe is always pretty chill - it's not a bustling spot by any means. Cocktails & Cuisine: The sushi here is simply put, perfect. Just order the chef's choice and let them perform their magic. Take down some cold sake to boot and you'll be in sushi heaven. Prices: Nothing here is too pricey. You can get the pre-ordered sets for under $20 and they do not skimp. Plus the dinners are served with miso, salad, and rice. It's one of the few sushi restaurants in Los Angeles where you can leave completely full and not feel like you've spent a small fortune. What to Wear: The attire is pretty casual. Daters maybe a little more dressed up, but the ambiance isn't romantic or anything. Insider Info/When to Go: Like I said above, get the chef's choice and let them go to work. You'll walk away saying it was one of the best sushi meals you've ever had. Parking in the area can be dicey depending on which block you're on - but for the most part it's homeless free. I still wouldn't recommend walking around alone at night though.
