I’m no sushi expert, but Octopus is indubitably one of the best sushi restaurants I have ever visited. Right as you walk in, you notice the subtly colorful neon lights that surround the bar area and table booths, giving the ambiance a cool and trendy, yet unassuming, feel. The restaurant certainly makes a good first impression, and it doesn’t end there. The staff is cordial and professional, as well as very knowledgeable about the menu, so you’ll be guided through any food questions you may have. But you shouldn’t worry too much about what to order, because whatever will appear on your plate will most likely be exquisite. Personally, I’m a die-hard fan of Octopus’ premium sushi rolls, packed with flavor and so soft they melt in your mouth. The restaurant also offers light and refreshing traditional Japanese beer, such as Sapporo and Kirin, that perfectly accompany the freshness of the sushi. And when it’s time for the check, your heart is probably not going to jump out of your chest, as Octopus is not only delicious, it is also very affordable.

For Downtown Angelenos wanting to snag some decent sushi, Octopus is always an excellent choice. Save your paycheck and eat tasty California Rolls, Tempura and Yellowtail Sashimi during Octopus's happy hour (3-5pm and 9-11pm). The chic japanese restaurant is great for an inexpensive meal and drinks before heading out to DTLA's finest bars. If sake isn't for you, Octopus also offers scrumptious Sour Green Apple and Pomegranate Martinis, complete with cherry. They also offer a Pick-Two or Pick-Three lunch and dinner special. Beware - you WILL feel full and satisfied after eating two or three mini entrees, soup, salad, rice and an egg roll.

Octopus, like most places in California (at least to this New Yorker) boasts fantastic sushi. In addition to your standard rolls and sashimi, Octopus also has some very unique pieces, such as conch. The prices are a little high, but if you go as a group and share a variety of dishes you should be good to go. Splitting a pitcher of beer is also a good deal. For USC students, Octopus also boasts the added benefit of being extremely convenient - take the metro downtown or cab it, since parking in downtown can be difficult. If you come with a large group, call ahead and make a reservation - the upper room is great for large groups.

Known to have great happy hours, if you want to get tipsy at brunch, this is the place to be. You have one and a half hours to eat all the sushi and drink all the mimosas or sake you want. But, when it comes to the sushi, you better ask the chef what’s fresh, because you might get some chewy squid or slimy halibut so make sure to check with the staff on what’s fresh off the boat before placing your order. So, although the fish isn’t 100% fresh, you will find yourself in a hip atmosphere with friendly service, and better deals than other local sushi establishments in the area.

Like any normal sushi bar octopus offers a variety of rolls with all the toppings and any special custom order you can think of. It is not on the level of Katsuya in tasta and quality of sushi but I still love this place. I prefer Octopus over other sushi places becasue of the cool venue. There is an upstairs and a downstairs and it is decorate really well with cool modern furniture that makes for great pictures. They also do beer pitchers which i love for big groups and parties. They can accomodate parties of all sizes.

As a USC student, Octopus is our go-to restaurant for pre-invite dinners or birthday celebrations. It's not because the sushi is the absolute best, but the upstairs is very accommodating for large groups and the price, especially during happy hour, can't be beat. They do happy hour and reserve happy hour, my favorite, which starts later at night and goes until they close. You can get your fill on saki bombs and a sushi roll (which can be as cheap as $3) and appetizer without spending more than $15 per person. Parking can be a pain around there, so if you're with a group, it will probably be easier to just cab it, especially if you're taking advantage of the saki bombs.

Octopus has one of my favorite happy hours!! The deals are great at this time. The sushi isn't spectacular, but oh well. You can't really mess up a spicy tuna roll too badly. Anyways, the focus here is on HAPPY HOUR DRINKS for sure. Octopus is a great sake bombing spot and is very accommodating for groups! If you're coming here from SC, take a cab downtown because the drinks are too cheap and sweet to resist! I love the crowd too, because it's filled with classmates and party goers that you already probably Octopus is definitely at the top of a USC student's downtown happy hour destination...and with good reason

Octopus is a great restaurant to go out to with a group of friends! The food is really good and the restaurant has such a cool/trendy atmosphere. Also the sushi is amazing! They have great happy hour specials too so I would definitely recommend going for that. They have a good selection of drinks as well! Its in a nice area of downtown so USC students come here a lot, parking is usually pretty easy as well. I would definitely recommend going to Octopus!

I went here for dinner before an invite and I really enjoyed it! The sushi is delicious and it is priced reasonably well. We all ordered bento boxes for dinner and they were huge and more than enough food. The drinks are good as well. You can order either sake bombs or other mixed drinks if you ask to look at the menu. The place has an awesome vibe but you can come here for a formal event or a casual evening, both work! Plus it is conveniently located downtown. Overall I definitely recommend coming here for sushi at least once!

I went here for a friend's birthday and then again for dinner another time and loved it! The sushi was great and the potstickers were delicious! I highly recommend heading over for the late night happy hour!! It's in a cool area of downtown as well and it's pretty easy to find parking nearby! It has a great chic vibe but is still casual enough! I would definitely recommend making a trip over for dinner one night with some friends! It's always a fun time out at Octopus! The atmosphere is always great and the food is always really good!

So this place is really good if you want the ambiance but don't care about being classy. Super swanky decor, good food, very inconsistent service. But when everything is $4 during reverse happy hour (after 9:30) who really cares? great to go for sake bombs. I HIGHLY recommend the snow roll=melt in your mouth deliciousness. They have a huge selection of appetizers and rolls, it's just not always done the same way (sometimes they put this weird mayo sauce on the spicy tuna on crispy rice wha) and it's not always presented very.. beautifully. Still, love this place and so do all my friends. Go here 4 good sushi time.

If you're going to go to Octopus, I highly recommend going during their late night happy hour. Although the sushi isn't the best in downtown, their happy hour prices are fantastic and there's always a good crowd. For something different, I would recommend their oyster shooters. Octopus has a very chic decor, but don't stress about wearing your finest pearls as most of the clientele are young business associates or students who are all there just to have a good time. Another perk to late night happy hour is that you are more likely to find parking nearby. I usually park in the garage near IHOP as it has the best price within a 3 block radius.
