Industry Cafe and Jazz is quite unlike any other Jazz establishment in Los Angeles. From it's peculiar menu to it's diverse music offerings, Industry gives you many reasons to come back for more. I say peculiar menu because they serve both Ethiopian and soul food.... odd I know, but hey it works. I say diverse music because every night is something different and NOT explicitly Jazz. It could be stand-up comedy, samba, a 12 person Jazz band (yes it's true, I've seen it) whatever the owner feels like booking. Thankfully they have designated days and it's not randomly decided. Best part about it all? You rarely have to pay for the entertainment. Typically the entertainers work for tips (perfect for cheap date ideas guys!). And what about the food? It's good and reasonably priced. Not like "holy sh*t this is the best Ethiopian and soul food I've ever had" but more like "Hey, I enjoyed this meal and got what i paid for". Key items to get: Vegetarian mix plate for dinner and candied yams w/ ice cream for dessert. Also, if they have any Ethiopian beers in stock then you have to get one because they run out quickly and are quite tasty. The ambiance is very arts-district chic mixed with some old leather booths and glass tabletops. It's not exactly classy or moody like some Jazz clubs but none of that matters when you get great tunes and a friendly staff.
