My Take: I went to Diablo on Saturday night for a bite before going to a party, and if gourmet tacos are your thing, then this is the place for you. The Silver Lake taco joint serves up Mexican-inspired cuisine that would be right at home on a food truck to the hoards of local hungry hipsters that frequent the restaurant. Service was fairly quick overall and the server taking our order gave great recommendations as to which tacos were a must-try. The Scene: Diablo has a modern gastropub vibe, with plenty of exposed brick and natural wood finish and long wooden tables in the middle of the dining room. There are also standard tables that seat 4 along the walls should you want a more intimate meal. The restaurant has a second room featuring the menu posted on a giant chalk board on the wall and registers where you can order. The Saturday night crowd consisted primarily of boisterous Silver Lake locals in their mid-to-late 20s, but finding a table was not an issue. Cocktails & Cuisine: Diablo features a nice variety of unique tacos with ingredients that will make any foodie’s mouth water like short rib, kale, and beef cheek. I had the Maple Fried Chicken and Korean BBQ tacos and found them to be equally delicious. They also have other options including nachos, quesadillas, bacon-wrapped hot dogs, and salad. Diablo has a great beer selection, both on tap and in bottles, as well as wine and sangria. Prices: Most tacos are around $4 or $5 each. While I was admittedly left hungry after my two tacos, I can understand the pricing with such high-quality ingredients. Beer was around $7 on tap (but $3 for PBR), with bottles ranging from $3 to $15 depending on the beer and bottle size. Sangria was $6 for a glass for $18 for a carafe that serves 3 or 4 people. What to Wear: Diablo is a casual spot; wear whatever makes you happy while chowing down on some tacos. Insider Info/When To Go: Diablo has an amazing happy hour featuring $1 PBR, $2 Olympia, $3 Sangria and a $4 Daily Draft Special from 4pm-6pm and 9pm-11pm Tuesday through Friday.
