Owned by the same guy who runs Blue Boor next door, 3Dog is a trendy and authentic Mexican joint with super tasty food and a big patio that invites you to bring in your dog and bask in the sun. They even have a menu for the pooches, too! Folks take their food seriously, here, so don’t expect a $5 burrito the size of your face. They get pretty persnickety if you ask for substitutions or additions, but that’s because the chef is a legit artist who has planned everything down to the littlest spice. It’s not super complex, but even the fresh chips and salsa are addictive as hell, and both the shrimp tacos and the ceviche transport me to my happy place. Big windows looking out onto Cahuenga make it feel like your outside even when you aren’t, and some of the booths even have their own built-in taps so you can drown yourself in Modelo with ease. Has almost a speakeasy quality, with lots of cool hanging lanterns, elegant metal finishes, and a slick center bar. The place must have been a theater at one time because there’s still an old marquee out front. But outside is where it’s at. It’s like you stepped into some elegant Spanish villa, with beautiful blue tile, hanging plants, and smaller bar for easy day drinking. Dogs get their own bowls with fresh veggies and meats, while you can sit back and stuff your belly without feeling guilty that Rover has to go hungry. Happy Hour is M–F from 3–7pm, while weekends bring in bottomless mimosas from 11am–2pm. It’s regularly pretty busy, yet while it’s quite classy, it’s not overdone. You don’t get a bunch of scenesters here, just stylish friends and cool folks who want a meal done right and a few drinks to go with it. Go.
