I love Harvelle’s in Santa Monica. I love that they have live music that you can really dance to almost every night of the week. And I’m talking R&B, soul, and blues type of music/dancing…something that (sadly) is hard to find in LA. Every time I’ve been here the bands are on point and get the entire place grooving. The dance floor is pretty small and can get cramped but you just need to play through. The bar itself is a very long (and so is the room) with the dance floor in the back. And the dim lighting, red curtains, and old school bar add to the chill vibe. If the place is crowded it can be a challenge to get close to the band…but makes it that much easier to get to know the folks you’re wading through on the way. It’s a little out of place on the West Side…seems like it belongs in Hollywood or Downtown…but they’ve been at this location for years and well worth the trip if you don’t live in the area.
