Venues on Melrose Avenue Overview

Osteria Mozza - Bar | Italian Restaurant in Melrose, LA

Filled with shops and bodegas selling everything from medical marijuana to the latest in alternative fashion, Melrose is a gritty stretch of L.A. where tourists flock to shop. Though it doesn’t offer a bevy of venues to catch a show, there are a couple places nestled within this hopping ‘hood where live acts prevail.

The Groundlings Theatre has been a comedy venue in Melrose since 1974, launching big names like Will Ferrell, Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Kathy Griffin, and Chris Parnell. The venue is entirely non-profit, made up of 30 company members (officially known as “Groundlings”) who write and perform in the Groundlings Theatre’s shows, and teach classes at the Groundling’s School.

Across the street is another Melrose venue, the Zephyr Theater, which is home to an eclectic mix of plays. Originally called the Horseshoe Stage, the spot opened in January 1956 and has been showing intimate stage performances ever since.
