The A-listers may have moved on, but the ultra-mod Rooftop Bar crowning The Standard Downtown hotel still offers a swanky environment for sipping cocktails under the stars.
A bird’s-eye view of LA and a funky décor featuring animal topiary and red AstroTurf greet fashionably-dressed patrons as they step onto the terrace level, where a diverse clientele of international travelers, hip artsy types, and young professionals lounge on low ottomans for relaxed conversation.
By day, hotel guests in bikinis and swim trunks dominate the scene as they cool off in the long pool or catch some rays, while by night, the pool glows blue as the creative crowd sways gently on white rocking chaises and watch movies projected onto the high rise opposite the roof.
Those who prefer a more sociable atmosphere can mingle with the other chatty guests gathering at the bar and fire pit or head for the crowded dance floor, while frisky hipsters might slip into the signature red waterbed pods for a bit of privacy.
Although a mellower vibe during the week gives way to a flirtier and more rambunctious singles scene on the weekends, Rooftop Bar is always spot on for some of the coolest stargazing in town.
Young professionals, internationals, tourists, and hotel guests on the weekends, hipsters, musicians, creative types, and neighborhood regulars during the week, early 20s to 40s.
Nightly DJs play a mix of eclectic music. Spring and Summer pool parties on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
Limited menu of snacks and sandwiches, including sliders, vegetable kebobs, and bacon-wrapped dates. Lunch M–F noon–4pm, evening menu nightly 4–11:30pm. Valet and garage parking available.
Cover charge $20/weekends. Menu $4–$12. Beer $8–$9, wine $9+/glass or $30/bottle, cocktails $10+. Valet parking $15. Garage parking $10.
After work attire, business casual, swimsuits, vintage, and T-shirts and jeans, as long as they’re not torn, tattered, or baggy.
During the week for a mellower vibe, or Friday and Saturday nights for a flirtier and more bustling scene.
The Standard’s 24/7 restaurant is located downstairs and serves a selection of comfort food all night long.
