Landmarks in Los Feliz / Atwater Village Overview

Alcove Cafe & Bakery - Restaurant | Café | Bakery in Los Feliz / Atwater Village, LA

When it comes to Los Angeles landmarks, the Los Feliz / Atwater Village area offers easy access to few celebrated sites.

One of the most obvious landmarks in Los Feliz is Griffith Park, a 4,000-acre urban oasis with every imaginable outdoor activity: horseback riding, swimming, a zoo, tennis and basketball courts, countless trails, a golf course, and more. Atop the park is the Griffith Observatory, with a planetarium and high-powered telescope that are accessible to the public.

Also within Griffith Park is another Los Feliz landmark, The Greek Theatre. The intimate, outdoor music venue was built in 1929 and gets its name from the shape of its stage, which resembles a Greek temple. Shows here feature all types of musical acts, from lesser-known indie artists to big-name rockers.

Over in Atwater Village, the landmark is the city itself. First known as Atwater Park, the place was a poppy field before it was divvied up into plots. It was named for early pioneer Harriet Atwater Paramore, whose husband purchased the land in 1868.
