Music Venues in Downtown LA Overview

Moreton Fig - Bar | Restaurant in Downtown, LA

City centers are oftentimes hotspots for live tunage, and Downtown L.A. music venues do not disappoint. With big-audience arenas and intimate haunts, there’s something for everyone, from rip-roaring rock-and-roll concerts to EDM dancefests.

Over at L.A. Live is Nokia Theatre. With its debut show in 2007, which featured The Eagles and The Dixie Chicks, the venue can seat more than 7,000 and is a popular spot for local concertgoers. But an even bigger L.A. Live music venue is the Staples Center. Home to Los Angeles’ top professional sports teams, this 20,000-seat arena has played host to some of the world’s biggest musical acts, like Roger Waters of Pink Floyd fame and the progressive rock band Muse.

But sometimes a live show calls for an intimate setting where one can see the performer without a pair of binoculars. Jazz fans can rejoice at Blue Whale, while back-alley spot The Smell features a mix of punk rock, indie, experimental, metal, and electronic sounds.

For a taste of history while checking out music venues in Downtown L.A., head to Shrine Auditorium, The Mayan, or Orpheum Theatre. All of these destinations are fantastic examples of pre-WWII Los Angeles architecture, and offer music lovers a storied venue where they can jam out.
