Dive Bars in Culver City Overview

Rush Street - American Restaurant | Lounge | Sports Bar in Culver City, LA

Before gentrification spruced up Culver City, it was a gritty, working-class neighborhood that was often overlooked when it came to planning a night out. But now that dive bars are all the rage in Los Angeles, the older watering holes that dominated the Culver City nightlife have become treasured haunts for today’s drinkers.

Perhaps the diviest of all Culver City dive bars is Backstage Bar & Grill. Around for more than 75 years, it claims to be the oldest bar in Culver City, and has bare-bones prices on all food and beverages. Located across the street from Sony Studios, it draws a mix of industry professionals and nearby residents who return time and again for the cheap fare and good times.

For a lively sports pub with a gritty ambience, Joxer Daly’s has plenty of TVs tuned to the game and a pool table for patrons who want in on the action. Not too far from that is The Cinema Bar – also claiming to be the oldest bar in Culver City – where live Americana music is played on a tiny wooden stage positioned in the corner below water-stained ceiling tiles.

For the record: Dive bars in Culver City aren’t typically found in the trendy downtown strip, which is home to newer, more upscale establishments.
