A friendly drinking den without the velvet ropes and long lines, The Well is a refreshingly relaxed neighborhood bar that draws a young and fun-loving crowd of after-work drinkers and singles looking to mix and mingle.

Light on décor, the venue’s main attraction is the bar in the middle of the room – and its centerpiece aquarium full of martini glasses – where patrons gather in the early evening for some laid-back conversation over cocktails.

Semi-private areas accessed through keyhole openings provide space for the engaging crowd to meet and greet, while high-backed communal black leather banquettes lining the walls make chatting with new people a given.

The energy picks up considerably as the evening progresses, the liquor flows more freely, the music fans line up to play DJ at the jukebox, and the actors, agents-in-training, and preppy young professionals chat and flirt with groups of well-heeled women.

One of the best places in town for down-to-earth good times with a festive party crowd, The Well promises a happening scene bound to work itself into a loud frenzy by midnight.

Hot Spot
Denisa D. Apr 26, 2013
I only recently discovered this place but was really impressed by it. Their drinks are pretty good, I had the "Rumba Punch" every time I've gone there, which is a girly but tasty drink for something on the cheaper side. I've seen a few famous faces here so it can definitely be considered a "hot spot". The fact that it's hidden means it doesn't get too crowded, the people that go there are in the know. There's a spot in the back with really comfortable couches, but if it's reserved there are plenty of other seating areas. It took a while for the bartender to notice I was waiting to put in my order, but it could have just been that it was a busy night. The only bad thing about it is there's only one toilet in the ladies bathroom which made for a bit of a line on a Saturday night.
One of the best happy hours in Hollywood

You read that correctly. Those who've lived in LA for a while know that finding a happy hour that goes to 7 is about the standard. 8PM is pretty rare, but 9? 9PM is like finding the fountain of youth. Best part about this 9PM happy hour is that you're at a no nonsense bar that not many know about because it's tucked away in the middle of a building off Argyle. The bar is square-shaped with lounge seating surrounding it. In one corner you can find a jukebox with a nice selection of tunes, in another you can find a more private lounge perfect for holding small gatherings. The company who owns this place also owns some other great bars in the area: The Parlour Room (not the one on Melrose), The Woods, El Bar, the list goes on. If you've been to any of those then you know that this place shouldn't disappoint. Give it a shot if you're ever in Hollywood and need to grab a quick after work drink.
A Hidden Gem

I visted The Well for the first time recently and even though the address says it is on Sunset, the entrance is on Argyle... so it's kind of hidden and not easy to find if you are not familiar with the area. I was here on a Monday to celebrate a friend's birthday for happy hour and really enjoyed the cool vibe. It's not a real big place but the dark and laid back vibe makes it a cool place to hang and chill out. The bar is in the center of the room with comfortable seating along the wall. The food was good at reasonable Happy Hour prices. I ate the Spicy Chicken Strips & Fries with a glass of Pinot Grigio. I loved that my wine glass was filled all the way to the brim..(Yee!) One of the best things about this place is the Jukebox! Happy Hour is every day (including weekends) from 5pm to 9pm. I don't live close enough to visit this place often, but it's a cool spot to stop over for Happy Hour before going to the ArcLight or partying at the Hollywood clubs.
Great fries, great drinks, great atmosphere!

Hidden in Hollywood, the Well is a great place to bring a large group of friends for a bite to eat, for birthday drinks, or just to relax and hang out. It's pretty spacious, yet intimate, and the bar tenders really know their drinks. It's never too crowded, but there is always someone interesting to talk to down the bar, which makes it a good place to meet someone for drinks - or have a single ladies night out! The only trouble is the music is QUITE loud, so prepare to speak up (or lean in close!)
South of Velvet

Somewhere between a dive bar and a velvet roped club lies the Well. Clean modern decor and a lack of destitute patrons separate it from the former while no line out front and a casual dress code keep it out of the latter. It’s a good bar for those that prefer their drinking recumbent as the place is filled with booths and benches and the jukebox has an eclectic enough mix to keep the employees from the nearby Amoeba pacified. Never too crowded on weekends or weeknights though beware of shows at the Palladium next door as they tend to greatly expand the patronage and greatly shrink the nearby parking.
Old Standby

You know what The Well is good for? If you're looking to throw a private party, office shindig, birthday get together or going away bash - The Well provides. When you walk in, there are booths and cushioned islands on the right-hand side. In the middle is the four-sided bar that actually divides the venue into four quadrants. The back left has an open doorway and an area that fits 10 or more people comfortably for a small gathering. The music is usually decent - 80s. And the crowd varies - mid 20s mostly but if there's a show letting out at The Palladium next door, it's a free-for-all. Not too pricey, I've been stopped a couple of times for wearing tennis shoes, but overall, decent spot for when the rest of Hollywood is simply too crowded.
