Jun 30, 2015 —  London is one of the world’s biggest tourist destinations year-round - particularly in the summer when the weather is perfect.

While you might normally plan a summer holiday trip to an exotic location or another major city around the world, why not stay put and enjoy the London you might normally miss.

Take some time away from the weekly grind, plan a week or two for yourself, or maybe take off every Friday of the summer to live like a London tourist. Here are some ideas for cool places and events to get your started.

London Casinos

Who needs Monte Carlo, Macau, or Vegas when London has some of the best UK casinos. Casinos like The Ritz, Aspers, and Empire provide the same opportunity to sport that blazer or cocktail dress while sipping drinks and becoming a big winner.

Summertime Festivals

London has a ridiculous number of festivals throughout the summer with an event for every taste and genre. Major concerts and music festivals dominate summer weekends (like British Summer Time, Wireless, Calling Festival, and Lovebox) but there are plenty of jazz, theater, film, and other cultural festivals to enjoy as well.

Football Stadium Tours

Football season may be over but that doesn’t mean you can’t get your fix of the pitch. Take a stadium tour of any of London’s football clubs and get a true behind-the-scenes experience. Tours usually include access to the dressing rooms, tunnel, dug-out areas, press areas, and the team museum – plenty of great Instagram photo opportunities.

Outdoor Theatre

Experience the theatre under the sun and stars – just like our ancestors. London’s theatre scene goes to another level during the summer with spectacular outdoor theatre events at venues like Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre. Take some time to soak up the drama.

London has more museums than you would probably ever know about so find your inner tourist and explore. Take some time to visit that art gallery, exhibition, or classic collection you’ve been putting off visiting for months and finally make it happen.

While these are a few ideas, there are certainly plenty of other options to enjoy a London Stay-cation this summer. Take a few hours to soak up some sun in one of the parks and figure out your plan.
