The O2 Arena, also known as North Greenwich Arena, is one of London’s most impressive entertainment venues. Selling over 1.2 million tickets during its opening year in 2007, the O2 Arena is the third most popular venue in the world behind Manchester Arena and Madison Square Garden.
The O2 Arena is located on the Greenwich peninsula in South East London. This massive dome-shaped arena can hold up to 20,000 people and is used for a vast array of purposes. Major sporting events at The O2 Arena have included NBA and NHL games, and is scheduled to hold the 2012 Summer Olympics gymnastics competition. The venue was also recently used for the world premiere of the film, The Hunger Games.
The Arena features big-time music events, with artists ranging from Avicii to Justin Bieber. Past sold-out performances at the O2 Arena include legendary names like The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin. The arena also includes a smaller entertainment venue and nightclub called indigO2, which hosts major music artists and bumping after parties. The arena itself is undoubtedly an architectural masterpiece – it was built specifically to reduce echoing which, combined with a state-of-the-art sound system, results in one of the best concert audio experiences in Europe.
In order to cater to its massive audiences, the O2 Arena offers a diverse selection of bars and restaurants along its “Entertainment Avenue”. Choices range from snack foods to fine dining and a variety of different ethnic cuisines. The O2 Arena is easily accessible through public transportation including the tube, bus, and train. There is also ample space for parking should you choose to drive.
