Party Earth Coq d'Argent Review

The Scene

Coq d’Argent in The City of London is a swanky rooftop bar/restaurant with upscale eats & a classy crowd. Check out London from a lofty perch with Party Earth.

The translation from French of Coq d’Argent – a restaurant perched atop the postmodern office and retail building at No. 1 Poultry – is “money rooster” (or “silver cock,” to be literal), a term that makes perfect sense considering The City’s high-flying financial types who flock to this rooftop hotspot.

Accessed via two elevators, the main dining room features a sparse décor of clean wood walls, large windows, and plenty of space for the white-clothed tables where snazzy suits and stylish scenesters feast on nouvelle French cuisine like foie gras terrine with pear.

The wine list runs into the hundreds – both in price and variety – with dapper sommeliers on hand amid the perfectly coiffed wait-staff to guide patrons through the selection.

Sunny days and early evenings see the biggest crowds, although few would describe this place as a throbbing party scene. And while the venue clearly caters to a clientele with money to burn, prix fixe dinner and Sunday lunch deals rein in a three-course meal at around £30.

The biggest draw is undoubtedly out on the huge rooftop, which features a canopied terrace and bar and manicured lawns where young urban professionals can sip and smoke as they gaze upon the London skyline.

Day or night, iconic structures like the Gherkin appear practically next door, making Coq d’Argent an ideal retreat to erase the day with coworkers, or a perfect excuse to dress up for fine wining and dining.

My girlfriend has a thing for views, so I took her here for our anniversary coz I had read about their 3 course meal deal in Time Out. The view was great. The food was good, but the portions were small and its expensive. Weird thing happened when she went to take some photos near the ledge. The waiter came over and asked her to step back. They’re tetchy about potential jumpers coz there have been a couple in the last few years. it was strange.
