Party Earth The Curtains Up Review

The Scene

The Curtains Up in Barons Court, London is a boho-chic pub right above the Barons Court Theatre. Grab a pint, grab a show, & head to Party Earth London.

A cozy neighborhood pub situated directly above the Barons Court Theatre, The Curtains Up is yet another addition to the ever-expanding Geronimo chain, but it definitely has its own personality.

Tucked into a residential corner of Baron’s Court, the venue shares much of its clientele – as well as the bathrooms – with the performance space below, but also attracts a diverse mix of area office types and chill groups of locals in need of an attitude-free pint and a little conversation.

The main bar area is simple and homey, with large brass mirrors and enormous plush chairs for patrons to sink into with beers in hand, while through a doorway lies the light and colorful café space, with a coffee bar, paintings of Dalí, and rustic furnishings that would not look out of place in a countryside B&B.

Hours don’t run late and the pub’s liquor license only goes to 11pm on weekends, so the venue isn’t a destination for a raunchy night out by any means, but the mellow vibe – complemented by a seasonal menu of traditional British grub – is ideal for students from the nearby London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art who want to analyze Shakespeare over Syrah and Irish stew.

Minimally upscale but far from pretentious, The Curtains Up is perfect for a round with friends, whether it’s after work, after a show, or even during intermission.

I’m not a Lamda student but I have several friends who are, and this is their local. It’s quite quirky for a chain pub. There’s a crazy Hungarian manager who barks orders at the bartenders and the theatre downstairs always has a stream of strange and interesting theatre people coming in and out. It’s in a super residential area and apparently the pub gets a lot of complaints, but it’s always very relaxed and relatively quiet anytime I’ve been!
