Party Earth The Crown & Sceptre Review

The Scene

The Crown & Sceptre in London’s Shepherd’s Bush promises soccer, a nice patio & Thai food. Figure out the strange mélange at this London pub with Party Earth.

Soccer, Thai food, and outdoor drinking make for an eclectic mix, but offer a tasty excuse to enjoy an afternoon or start the night at The Crown & Sceptre.

Tucked away in a mostly residential area of Shepherd’s Bush, the pub is normally home to a quiet atmosphere suited for enjoying a few cask ales amid background music that lets conversation take center stage.

The mellow air gives way when footie’s on the flat-screens, however, as local punters argue stats around one of the dark wooden tables in the main room or ogle the famous portrait of Rapid Ranger, a greyhound racing dog who’s also the unofficial mascot of the Queens Park Rangers Football Club.

The Crown is hardly a sports bar, though, so when there’s no game, the vibe in this quaint joint is far more conducive to hashing out weekend plans than partying down, especially out on the cozy flower-lined patio in back.

Still, anyone tired of traditional pub grub should find the fare intriguing, for while traditional staples of fish and chips and sausage and mash are available, the menu is dominated by Thai food, and casual drinks can easily turn into an impromptu dinner of seafood curry and coconut soup.

Cozy and a little kooky, casual with a dash of class, The Crown & Sceptre is a comfortable boozer that won’t rock anyone’s world, but is well worth a try.
