Fine dining, afternoon drinking, and a cheeky game of pool make for a leisurely afternoon or a joyous early evening romp at The Cadogan Arms.
Definitely not a place for raging parties, the airy venue serves as a relaxed break – or escape – from the bank-breaking boutiques that line King’s Road. The expansive front room usually finds a mix of curious foodies and groups of students who chill out in the big leather sofas as local office types plunk away on their laptops.
The menu touts an assortment of amped-up pub grub, with crab linguine, slow-braised lamb, and seasonal seafood sharing the page with traditional fish and chips, while the dining room’s décor goes for an upscale hunting lodge theme, its exposed brick walls lined with deer antlers and buffalo and fox heads.
The younger crowd usually makes its way to the cozy upstairs billiards room, where casual groups of friends take advantage of the £10 prix fixe hour of pool, food, and a beer or wine as they take turns at the three American 8-ball tables.
Party types generally head elsewhere after a meal or a few too many scratches, but with its intricate fare and relaxed fun, The Cadogan Arms is an easy choice to please everyone for a spell.
Chill college crowd playing pool, coworkers on a working lunch, well-to-do locals, punters in the mood for something unique on their plates, shoppers, families, mostly 20s to 30s.
Chill reggae tunes during the day, often transitioning to more high-tempo beats in the evening, but music isn’t the focus here.
One TV upstairs tuned to major sporting events.
Three American-style pool tables upstairs.
Quiz night on Mondays from 8pm with a £100 bar tab going to the winning team.
Upscale Brit fusion/gastropub fare includes hot chorizo sandwiches, seasonal salads, crab linguine, pan-fried trout, mussels, Dexter beef burgers, slow-braised shoulder of lamb, and rib-eye. Traditional roasts on Sundays.
Bar snacks £3–£6.50, starters £6–£10, sandwiches £8.50–£9.50, entrées £12–£15, roasts £17, pool package including mini cheeseburgers, fish and chips, homemade sausage rolls, a glass of wine or a bottled beer, and one hour of pool for £10/parties of two to forty people.
Beer £3.50–£5.50, wine £4–£10.50/glass or £16.50–£65/bottle, cocktails £7–£8.50.
Smart casual: traditional office attire, polos, chinos, loafers, summer dresses, striped cardigans, upstaged skirts.
Any time for a round of pool in a more upscale environment than found at traditional pool halls.
Big Easy (332-334 King's Road) offers another bit of Americana in the way of a U.S. crab shack-style restaurant, with big plates of budget-friendly seafood offered every day and live music most nights.
