Clapham, London –
A popular pub situated on the east end of bustling Clapham High Street and just steps away from the Clapham Common tube station, The Belle Vue attracts an undulating sea of twenty-something college kids who pop in to prep for a night at the nearby clubs.
Accented by wooden tables and floors, gilt-framed mirrors, chandeliers, and large windows, the pub is usually much lower key earlier in the week, with post-work 9-to-5ers stopping in for a relaxed drink and some high-end gastro grub like braised lamb shank, gammon steak, and – of course – beer battered fish and chips.
Cocktail lovers won’t find mixology gems here, but the expansive bar serves cold pints, summertime Pimm’s, and a selection of wine that clearly keeps its regulars buzzed and happy.
Although the Vue’s proximity to the area’s other bars makes it the perfect pre-gaming spot, there’s also much to be said for the laid-back comfort of tucking into a juicy burger and a pint of Carling with a group of friends on a rainy weekday afternoon.
A people-watcher’s paradise on weeknights and a pre-game hub on the weekends, the views and brews are always good at The Belle Vue.
Post grads, unpretentious locals, pre-gaming partiers, and some older regulars during the week, 20s to 30s+.
Mix of indie, rock, and 80s music. Quiz night on Mondays, live rock and Irish music on Fridays, poker nights on Sundays. Free Wi-Fi.
Rotating selection of upscale pub fare butternut squash risotto and prawn linguini, as well as fish and chips and a traditional roast dinner on Sundays.
Appetizers £4+, entrées £8–£13. Beer £3+, wine £4–£5/glass or £15.50–£30/bottle, mixed drinks £4–£5, champagne £24–£65/bottle.
Casual to business attire: jeans, sweaters, hoodies, button-downs, ties.
Friday and Saturday nights for standing-room-only pre-game drinks.
Inferno’s Disco (146 Clapham High Street) is a 70s wonderland for getting down to disco favorites on a Saturday night.
