Chiswick, London –
Live music, comedy, sports, and a mountain of Fuller’s pints can be found at George IV, a popular local pub that attracts a wide range of happy boozers.
Part of the extensive chain of pubs branded by Fuller’s – whose 1840s-era brewery is less than a mile away – the venue’s dark wood bar is top-heavy with London Pride, ESB, Chiswick, and other well-known Fuller faves, as well as a cozy selection of wine and champagne.
Area shoppers, blue-collar types, wandering tourists, and red-faced old blokes stop in at this classic pub space to huddle near the pair of fireplaces, settle into the many elegant booths, or catch a game on the half dozen flat-screens.
Comedy fans head straight to the rear showroom, a former storage space that now serves as the 200-capacity Headliners Comedy Club on Fridays and Saturdays, as well as the stage for open mic musicians on first and third Mondays, salsa lessons on Tuesdays, and major sports broadcasts whenever they happen.
Weekend visitors less interested in jokes stay up front, as the bar makes room for a live band on Fridays, while in the summer, crowds fill the rattan chairs in the beer garden in back.
A central hub for community gatherings, George IV is the kind of friendly pub where people show up for a quick pint, but end up staying well past IV o’clock.
