South London venue Electric Brixton provides a clubby backdrop for live music, including, as the name implies, electronic. Superstars like Paul Van Dyk have played this high-end space, which opened in 2011 with a flash of sexy lightning effects and a disco-ball chandelier. Club events and avant-garde art exhibits also find Electric Brixton to be the perfect venue.
The lavish space was originally a movie palace, built in 1913, and many ornate, historical details were preserved in the club’s renovation. Even when a live-music act isn’t booked, the Brixton is usually open from Thursday to Sunday for the see-and-be-seen club crowd.
For live music at Electric Brixton, 1,500 people can fit on the main floor and mezzanine gallery. A 150-capacity so-called “Baby Room” can function as its own event space or a VIP room for concerts and club nights. The main room features two large, backlit bars, while the VIP room has its own. VIP bottle service is also available during many shows and when the space functions as a club.
